Get a Sankara Card
In all his wisdom and kindness, His Holiness, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal, popularly known as Mahaswami, persuaded his followers to donate a handful of rice or oru pidi arisi, every day to feed the poor and downtrodden.
This remarkably simple scheme gained acceptance with housewives who could relate to the concept. She had to just keep aside a handful of rice, when she was going to cook a meal for her children and the rest of the family. In addition she kept aside some pulses, tamarind and one rupee.
He suggested a volunteer network that would go from house to house every week and collect the rice, pulses, tamarind and the rupee. All this was easy for any housewife irrespective of her family income. Her generosity and compassion were more important than anything else. Through this ‘pidi arisi scheme’ the house wife could participate in poor feeding. Volunteers would take all the rice and pulses collected to a nearby temple, use the money to add condiments. A simple meal will be cooked, offered as a neivedhyam to the deity and then distributed free to the poor in that locality. Thus the housewife and her family were the recipients of the blessings of the many poor people, who had no idea where their next meal would come from.
While enormous changes have taken place in the country, there are still the poor and the needy who do not know where their next meal would come from.
Inspired by the ‘pidi arisi thittam’ (a handful of rice scheme) we have introduced the Sankara Card. In its essence the Sankara Card helps you (the house wife) contribute effortlessly, even as you are looking after the needs of your children and your family. Thus every time you buy grocery for your family, as a Sankara Card holder you would be helping to feed the children at the Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir. Thus you get the immense satisfaction of performing ‘annadanam’to young brahmacharis even as you look after your family.
Here is how Sankara Card works:
At Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir, we seek to ensure that all those boys and girls who are admitted to the school will thrive in an environment of high academic expectation, will be able to benefit from the rounded education provided and be happy within the school community. We recognize our duty to embrace the traditional education system and to work to make people aware of its significant benefits and advantages.
We have tied up with grocers to provide for a volume discount on your monthly purchases of grocery. They will be the authorized outlets for accepting Sankara Cards.
You will be paying nothing extra – just your usual costs.
The grocer will credit to Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir agreed discounts commensurate with the purchases you make.
Through this card, the grocer gets additional volumes.
You get the joy of contributing to a deserving cause of feeding young veda patashala vidyarthies.
Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir gets regular payments from grocers, who will remit the discounts YOU have created, as provisions required for the Vidya Mandir.
It’s a win-win situation for all.
By acquiring the Sankara Card, you get direct access to all the activities of the Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir, as well as an opportunity to participate in all the various services that will be undertaken by the institution. A blessing you will surely appreciate.
You also get discounts for all programs conducted in the Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir Auditorium, as in many other institutions which will sign up for honoring the Sankara Card. The list of accredited institutions would be communicated to the members, as we enroll more institutions.
